I'm getting a new mobo and I'm just wondering if this will make me reformat my HD.

No, not unless you want to give yourself more work than necessary. Bit you will need to do a repair install of Windows XP to configure the OS for the new motherboard.

Repair install will install over the exisiting installation, keeping all you current settings and installations intact.

To do a repair install, boot form the Windows CD. Ignore the first install option and slect install. When the instllation has identified the curent installation then select the repair option.

All this assumes that all you are doing is replacing the motherboard and keeping the current hard disk setup.

You may just boot straight into XP also. I have swapped mobos several times, and XP seems to handle it well, I didn't have to do anything, it booted straight in. Of course, it was all the same hardware, that may have been a factor.

With Win9X, I delete the `Enum' key in the Registry. I would think that should work with XP also, but I've never tried it.

jam, thanks for the website, it looks excellent.

I just upgraded my old ASUS Celeron to a ABIT 2500 and that was a huge pain. the info at that site would have saved me a lot of aggravation.
