its summer. its very bad to work with a computer for a whole day without the AC on. i just wonder if a HD will overheat like CPU or video card. its pretty hot when i touch it.

It would be very rare. It doesn't overheat in the winter when the heat is on. If you have enough air moving with the fans, you should be OK.

harddrives generally are designed to operate in temperature ranges up to about 65degC (ambient) which means the surrounding temperatures inside your case would have to be above that to cause a problem. Your CPU would be toast before the case temp gets that high. Just ensure there is adequate airflow inside your case and if you have a number of harddrives avoid placing them in adjacent bays. If there is room leave a vacant bay between drives.

i have 9 fans in my systems. but HD is diff. HD doesnt attach with fan like CPU, and HD is seal by metal. i am just curious how heat comes out of HD while it spins 7200RPM inside. its only 60-70F with the heat on in the winter, but summer, its like 90-100+ F degree without AC.

so should i just open the case(not bare bone)? just open one side. i am concern if i do that for the summer(for 3 months), inside of my system will be so dusty. looks like the best choice for me is to get an new AC as soon as possible.

Heat is caused by two things. friction and electrical resistance. Although spinning at 7200rpm there is almost no friction so minimal heat is generated purely by the motion of the disk. I find it slightly amusing that harddrive manufacturers will put temperature sensors inside harddrives these days but publish no data on recommended internal operating temperature. The published recommendations relate to ambient temperatures. Your summer temperatures of 100F are only 38C which is well below the maximum recommended range.

Only 9 fans? Maybe a few more will ease your mind...LOL

I can't imagine what you're doing with 9 fans but if one is blowing some cool air over your hdd, that's about as good as it gets.
Skip

9 fans is overkill. Very likely you're creating turbulence inside the case and actually decreasing the proper airflow.
Properly sized, 1 fan pulling air in and 1 pushing air out, plus the HSF would be adequate for most situations.

There's a nifty way to check your HDD temp if it's a recent HDD, using a program called Dtemp. It sets an icon in the system tray showing the current HDD temp. Get it at private.peterlink.ru/tochinov/

i got 7 fans push the air out(3 on the back, 2 on the left side and 2 on the top), and 2 front-fans pull the air in. i got the 520W PSU, so should be no problem.

Totally wrong...there's no balance there whatsoever

To begin with, you simply have too many fans. I doubt you included the PSU in your total, but that counts as another exhaust fan...so you have 8 exhaust fans & only 2 intake fans feeding them. That doesn't strike you as being out of whack?

no, not include the CPU fans. so far, NO. doesnt strike me. i dont know, so far so good.

I didn't say CPU, I said PSU (power supply).
I can't believe you don't see a problem with that setup. I don't know how else to explain it...you only have 2 intake fans, but you have 8 exhaust fans! Do you understand the meaning of the word "balance"? air in = air out?
Would a mathmatical explanation help?
Assuming the average 80mm fan moves air at a rate of about 30 CFM...
2 intake (+) x 30 CFM = +60 CFM
8 exhaust (-) x 30 CFM = -240 CFM

i see. well, just wanna take out all the heat inside the comp. right now i changed to 3 intake fans, so 3 intake, 5 exhaust, doesnt have to be 50/50 right? i dont think i need that perfect balance. thanks for yall anyway.

You obviously have your own mindset about what works best. Set it up however the hell you want....

what 9 fans??? did u build ur case yourself?? when im looking for a computer casse i try and get the best for airflow but iv never seen one with 8 out 1 in LOL??
USUALLY most system case's have 1 in 1 out, and maybe one on the side making 3 case fans, then cpu fan, then gpu and then the psu fan making it come to 6 fans.
