The memory used on the video card has nothing to do with the memory used on the motherboard, so yes, you can use a video card that has DDR2, DDR3, DDR5, etc.

Does your power supply provide enough juice to run the card?

Is there enough clearance around the slot for the GPU? Will it sit on the motherboard without touching any other components such as the processors heat sink & fan? Is there enough clearance from the motherboard to the case wall?, is the case big enough?

These are probably the questions you need to ask yourself, as these cards can get fairly chunky and thirsty.
