I am trying to use magic jack. It seems to work pretty good, but after awhile it powers down. I have set the pc to not shut down, but it still powers down usb port. Do you think a powered port would help? than k you

If you see the USB port in the device manager, make sure that it not checked where it says allow the PC to shut this device to safe power. It's under power management.

Have you tried to call it when it was down? The call might wake it.

It's not your USB ports powering down. If that were true, then it would not respond to mouse movement or keyboard typing since both those devices rely on power from the USB port to function.

I would look at the options available in the software that came with Magic Jack and see if there is an option to keep it from powering down.

Some types of power management do power down usb devices. The best thing to do is get the type of magicjack that doesn't need to be powered by usb or an Ooma box.

It might be that you have the current one that doesn't need a computer and a it should have a wall adapter.
