okay, a specific k6-2 question. the processor is like450mhz or something. i have a socket 7 mobo to try it in, but the mobo jumper settings max out at 225mhz. how can i get the k6-2 to run at it's proper speed

Get the mobo's manual from the makers website.

I bet you that those setings are the FSB (4 x 100Mhz = 400Mhz)

The K6-2 will interpret the 2x multiplier as 6x, so with an older board that supports either 66MHz or 75MHz FSB, you could run the CPU at either 400MHz (6 x 66) or 450 MHz (6 x 75). 72-pin SIMMs should have no problem running at 75MHz. The important thing to look for is CPU voltage...many of the old socket 7 boards didn't support the lower voltage requirement (2.2v) of the K6-2...run it at 2.8V & you'll cook it
