I have a Dell Dimension E521 which I am try to fix for my daughter.
The problem is the computer will not boot at all when I press the power button on the front of the compute.
It does nothinf at all.
No beeps.
No fan on the power supply. The only indication is a blinking light on the motherboard labeled Aux Pwr Sp.
I have one of those power supply tester that you plug the power supply into.
Then I do this the fan comes on and the tester register all of the supplies volts are good except for the -5v.
However the Dell pinout says there is no -5v so that is expected.
Here is the page for the power supply pinout
http://support.dell.com/support/edo...I believe it just might be the on/off switch but I can not figure out how to get the front panel of the computer.
Any one have any idea if I am right or wrong?

The power switch is just a 2-wire connector going to the motherboard. The various connection descriptions may be silkscreened on the motherboard and you may be able to see which 2 pins go to the switch without removing the front cover. Then just temporarily short the pins with a screwdriver and see if it starts up.

I looked for this connection but Dell uses a connector with four wire connection from the front panel.
This is why I need to get the front panel off so I can see which go to the switch.I will have to see if I can figure out which two wire are for the off/on switch.

I don't know why that's in your sig but I remember the 1st time I heard that song. It was the mid 80's in a movie called Reckless, with Aidan Quinn & Daryl Hannah. I loved it when he knocked the beer cans off the cliff with his motorcycle!
BTW, I highly doubt the problem is in the power switch. A bad power supply is much more likely.

I'd try replacing the Power Supply first. If you'd looked on the Dell site, you could have found this:

Life's more painless for the brainless.

The very last thing I would suspect is the power switch. It's a very simple push to make switch. They practically never go bad.
I agree with Jam. Try swapping the power supply.

I'm having exact same issue on my E521.. I push the power button and nothing happens, and there is a blinking light on my motherboard. did you figure out what you're issue was? did replacing the power supply like others suggested work?

Yes the problem was both the motherboard and power supply were both shot. Luckily I was still under warranty and Dell sent out both items and the computer is running again.
The final test the dell guy did was to test was to have me remove all memory and pci devices and then restart the computer. When nothing happened at this point, he said both items were shot and they would send out replacements.
Check to see if you are still under warranty, its worth a shot.
