Specs: Windows 7, 3gb RAM
How do I get my laptop running Windows 7 to a wi-fi speed of 16mbps from 6 when wired with ethernet, it runs at the higher speed?

Hi Talkdot,

it might help if you advised your location (city/state) and ISP.

A cable connection to a router/modem will be faster than a wifi one, due to the overhead of running the wifi.

Try using speedtest.net to check your speed.
Ask your neighbours with similar installation as yours to do same. This will give you a guide what speed is available at your location.

An old router can slow things down.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

What speed should you be getting?

As Mike rightly says, wifi will never achieve the same speed as a wired connection, but you may want to try installing the latest wireless driver from your laptop maker's website.

I did that for my son on his laptop and the speed went up considerably.
