Subject: Wierd RAM
OS: Windows XP wSp1a
CPU/Ram: Athlon 1.4, 256 megs DDR
Comment:

Here are my relevant system specs:

Gigabyte GA-7DXR w/F10a BIOS
AMD Athlon 1.4 CPU
Maxtor 60 gig ATA 100 7200 RPM Hard Drive
VisionTek GeForce 4 Ti 4200 SE
256 megs Micron 2100 DDR RAM

The other day, I bought a RAM upgrade for my computer in the form of a Micron 2100 DDR 512 chip. Here are the specs on the RAM I bought:

* Module Size: 512MB
* Package: 184-pin DIMM
* Feature: DDR, PC2100 /266Mhz
* Configuration: 64Meg x 64
* DIMM Type: Unbuffered
* Error Checking: Non-parity
* Speed: 7.5ns
* Voltage: 3.3V
* SDRAM Timings:CL=2.5

And here is the link:

No matter what I've tried, I cannot get this RAM to work. When I turn my computer on, the fans come on, but the unit itself won't even POST. It just sits there beeping over and over. I've tried everything I know to do, including taking out the old RAM, trying the new RAM in different slots, switching out my video card, loading up the BIOS and changing all of its settings to fail-safe. The RAM itself is fine, because I tried it in a friends computer and it booted up with no problems. The only difference between this RAM and the ram I'm running now is the size. Anyone have any suggestions?

Specs for RAM upgrade for your mobo according to crucial.com
512MB DDR PC2100

DDR PC2100 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • Non-parity • 7.5ns • 2.5V • 64Meg x 64

CT6464Z265
BIG difference I can spot is Voltage so I would take it back and get one with the correct specs.
