Why won't yard sale subwoofer work?

October 9, 2011 at 16:43:32
Specs: Windows 7, AMD Phenom II x6 / 4gb ddr3 1333 RAM
I have had a sub woofer in my closet that i had bought a yardsale a year ago. I finaly broke it out and plugged it into my system. When my sound manager pops up and I hit the test button, the sub works fine in the tests. Once I open Windows Media Player or Itunes however, the sub doesnt work. This also happens when i play youtube videos. Is this a problem with my system or my sub?

So does that mean that if I listen to music that the program may not be able to use the sub?

Yes unless you change program or mixer settings.

Where are you plugging it into? Do you have an audio card that has a sub-woofer out?

There are 6 different slots to put headphones in. I inserted it into the one labeled center/sub. When I test the subwoofer in the control pannel it works fine. But it does not work in other programs like windows media player or itunes

you need a surround source. To get a simulated surround you need a mixer app. What sound chip do you have?

The sub works fine when tested and during witcher 2 gameplay but it does not work when i play music. This is definitely a problem with my computer not the sub.
