Why wont my 2-year-old Gateway desktop start?

Specs: Windows Vista, 2.2 GHz CPU 3 GB ram
Got a 2 year old Gateway desktop with 2.2 GHz cpu and 320 GB HD. Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. It has an intermitant problem starting up. Only makes a whirring sound like the HD spinning up. I have taken it to 3 repair shops. It worked for them fine. One replaced the power supply. Still doing it. I tried to find by the process of elimination, unplugging one peripheral at a time but still does it. No POST (or beeps). I replaced the ethernet cable. Nope, no dice. Could it possibly be the HD or maybe a fried MOBO?

Did u try to start the system with necessary components(board, cpu, a stick of ram, psu)? Did u to swap memory? it is possible the board is bad, try cpu, ram, psu, v-card on another compatible system.
