Did you buy a generic battery or one from Lenovo? Are you sure the charger is good?

Try putting the old battery back in to see if the laptop will then run. Try with an without battery and AC power pack.

Just because the seller says it will work doesn't make it so.

Hi OtheHill - I did put the old battery back and let it charged up a little to get enough power to start up all the mechanicals but it's still totally dead - the battery light lit up but it didn't even able to turn to yellow to start .
The original problem was my laptop shut down by itself all in flash while I was using it - I thought it's the battery but now with your inputs I think it's something to do with the T61 itself - Pls give me inputs if you have more - Thks millions ! you're so patience wit me.

The CMOS battery would not stop the laptop from POSTING. That isn't your problem.

There isn't enough information to go on. Are you sure the AC adapter is actually working? Check with a meter.
