Why Is Partitioning external HDD a bad idea?

Specs: Windows 7, 2gb
so i recently bought a samsung 320gb external hdd
i want to partition it to 3 partitions but the guy at the store said it's not a wise decision to split a hardrive to 3
i didnt have da time to ask the guy why.
so can u guys tell me why i shudnt split my external to 3 partitions?

In the most polite sense he may have confused a flash drive with a hard drive.

In some cases, some portable devices can't be accessed from windows if it has more than one partition (or rather the added partitions). The hard drive ought to be OK and you'd find out quickly if windows lets you or not. If it allows it then it is find to do.

I can't see a reason for me but it is fine for you to do if you so choose.
