Here I am again :)

Please can you tell me if this system is to slow for gaming, as some of my games seems to run a little slower than usual

My system is a

KT3 Ultra 2 Raid
Athlon XP 2100+ Polimino
Soundblaster Live 5.1
Creative Geforce 4 TI 4200 64MB overclocked to 608mhz memory and 328mhz Core clock
768mb DDR PC2100
Western Digital 40GB 5400RPM
DirectX 9.0

Please tell me is this any good as in Unreal Tournament 2003 I get max frames of 45 and as low as 25 FPS, why????

I have seen slower systems than this and there frames are loads better than mine,

Also on 3DMark 2001 SE my score is 7,500 when it used to go as high as 10,500 only 2 months ago, can low disk space cause this, I have all the latest drivers for my Motherboard, my soundcard and my Graphics card

Thanks in advance

Richard

Try going back to DirectX 8.1. Did you turn on AA or AF?

Download WinTop and see if some background process is taking up part of the processor bandwidth.

Nope, nothing is taking up CPU bandwidth exept SETI but I alway disable that when running games

How many processes should the PC be running when running games as mine does around 78 processes but none of them take up CPU bandwidth

78 processes is a lot!

I have 17 running...

As mentioned earlier, try disabling AA, etc. and run 3D Mark again. You should bench much higher than that!

EPoX 8RDA+ nForce2 Motherboard
Athlon XP 1700+ @ 9*200
512 MB CL2 PC3200 DDR
Gainward GeForce4 Ti4200 64 MB @ 324c/599m

3DMark 2001SE = 13,065

I also have 17 running. You got way to many things going on back there. Kill the ones you can and re bench.

All those processes are hogging up your ram. I bet you got a lot of spyware too. Get AdAware to remove all that junk and figure out what the rest of the processes are for.

Definitely get rid of the 5400 RPM hard drive ... that would be a start. A 7200 would be quite a bit faster.

Just my thoughts

Since he mentioned a frame rate change (for the worse), I say his Hd has nothing to do with it. It is what is running in RAM, in the background that is slowing his system down.

Definitely use Ad-Aware to clean out the spyware. Also clean out everything that does not need to be loaded at startup (boot).

i found that overclocking a video board too much can cause the videocard to run MUCH slower than usual. Try decreasing clock frequency on chipset 10 MHz, and 20MHz on video memory. This is true to my GF4 TI 4600. i dunno about urs.

/No I did decrease the overclock but it made my card run a little slower, so my cards is now running at

Memory 600mhz

Core Clock 324mhz

When I increased the core to 328 up to 335 it made my games tend to freeze then play perfectly then freeze again, so the current core clockworks great,

Also my Creative Geforce 4 TI 4200 64MB has not memory heatsink, only the GPU Unit has one

The max I can push the card is 645mhz memory and Core Clock 345mhz, so this card can overclock very well

Thanks for replying guys
