I am not getting any sound from the rear of my computer, only from the headphone jack in the front. I bought a new sound card and it didn't do the trick. Could it be something with the motherboard?

If it's a new card and you installed it right, it's the user. Open the software that came with the program and configure the speakers.

Some motherboards have jumpers you have to set to get sound from the front or the back. Yours may be set for the front.

Check your motherboard manual.

When everything else fails, read the instructions.

the problem is not with the sound card, I' sure of that. it happened with my first one, thats why I bought a new one. all that works is the headphone jack ion the front of the computer, which connects to the sound card with a wire. Why would this work and not the main connection. I have a Dell Dimensin 8200 pemtium4 2.53GHz 1.5GB ram and a creative audigy SE 7.1-could it be the pci port?

In Control Panel > Sound & Audio Devices select the Audio tab and then in the dropdown menu select your new soundcard as audio playback device.
If you use a microphone attached to it as well you can set that there too.
Check also the Voice tab settings.
There is a hardware tab as well with a test button you can employ.

I agree, the problem is user error.

When you put the new soundcard in, did you connect the wires for the front headphone jack to the new card? If not, how do you suppose you're getting sound from the jack?
