Why does my monitor not detect my HDMI cable

Specs: Windows 8
i have just build my pc and ive tryed plugging in my monitor but it just goes to asus logo then to black screen. i have tryed using vga dvi and hdmi but none of them work. its not my monitor thats broken either since it works when i connect it to my laptop

Did you install the video drivers? You may need to restart the computer after connecting the monitor.

It's got nothing to do with drivers.

Are you an experienced builder? Are you getting any beep codes? Did you bench-test the hardware before installing it in the case? Did you manually configure the BIOS settings to match your hardware configuration? Did you test the RAM with memtest86 before attempting to install the OS? You didn't try using a HDD with Windows already installed on it, did you? How about posting a detailed spec list.

You say you first get the asus logo on the monitor. If you have an asus monitor then perhaps it's coming from that. But if you're connecting it to an asus computer or a computer with an asus motherboard then the monitor is getting a signal. Have you tried using the bios setup keys--usually F2 or DEL? If you successfully get into bios setup then the monitor connection must be OK.
