Why can't I system restore to a chosen date?

Specs: Windows XP
I would like to system restore to the last date my computer worked well, but system restore will not let it restore previous to 2 days ago.

If the computer was not turned on that day then there will not be a restore point.

I guess I didn't phrase that right.

Look at the link below for an explanation of when restore points are created. Keep in mind that there must be sufficient space on the hard drive or restore points will not be created. Be default WinXP allocates 12% of the space on the OS partition. This number can be adjusted downward manually.
