Specs: Windows XP
Why does my wireless network connection speed says it is 54mbs, but My account says I am paying for 7mbs internet speeds. How is this possible? is 54 mbs just the speed from my wireless modem to my pc or what?

"is 54 mbs just the speed from my wireless modem to my pc or what?"

It's 54Mbps & yes, that is the wireless connection speed between your computer & router.

Your wireless router is reporting the speed at which you connect wirelessly to your network. You are paying for internet access speeds that are lower but that is from your router to the internet. Your network can be just your router, your laptop, and your printer for now but is can contain other computers, your cell phones, an NAS, etc. and the connection between devices would be the higher speed which you will eventually find useful.
