What is the difference between the HP Laserjet 1300 and 1300N? The only difference I can find (except for the $300 in price) is that the 1300N has an internal print server. Since I'm going to use this printer on a small network (8 computers), do I need a print server? Would it not be sufficient to just install the printer on one computer and share it for the rest? Am I missing something?

Thanks

Probably. If 8 computers are going to be sharing the printer the one with the internal print server would be the better option.

Installing the printer on one computer and sharing through that means the the computer with the printer connected has to be switched on and it will be slowed considerably if the other seven computers are queueing up to to use the printer.

However, another alternative is to get the printer without the print server and buy a seperate print server. I'm sure you can get a standalone print server for a lot less than $300.

I have a LazerJet with a print server, its external and looks really inexpensive. Definately not worth $300

Just googled and I have this one:

$157
