I'm in the process of building my first PC but I am stuck on selecting the correct video card. I am going to use the ASUS AN8-SLI motherboard. Which is better:
2 - MSI nVidia GEForce 6600GT 128mb cards
or
1 - MSI nVidia GEForce 6800Ultra 256mb card??
I can get the two 6600GT's for about $384, but the 6800Ultra costs $425+. Which is better for performance? I'm going to be using my new rig for gaming mostly.
Here's the rig I'm building:
Thermaltake VA3000 Dream Tower VA3000SWA ATX Case with Transparent X type side panel window
Thermaltake W0014 Silent Purepower 480W with Black housing - Xaser Edition ATX 2-Fan PSU
ASUS "A8N-SLI Deluxe" nForce4 SLI Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0GHz, 512KB L2 Cache 939-Pin 64-bit Processor (but I may go with the 3500+)
NEC 16X Double Layer DVD±RW Drive, Black, Model ND-3520A
Western Digital 200GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD2000JD (I will RAID, but not right away)
Kingmax SuperRAM Series Dual Channel Kit 184-pin 1GB (512MB x 2) DDR PC-3200, Model MPXD42D-2
NEC 1.44MB Black Internal Floppy Drive
and of course the video card or cards of choice. Thanks in advance y'all!

did a bit of research.
Sli, much like dual processors, is only of use if supported. And it seems it isn't supported on many games.
One reviewer said, he would rather have a card that kicked butt.
I would say of sli, it's been done before, And where are 3dfx now...
Get the rock solid card.

The 6800 Ultra 256MB is defintely the better card, but IMO, no card worth that kinda money
Asus A7N8X-X
1800+ @ 8 x 210MHz
512MB PC3200
Asus Ti4800SE 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro
