Subject: Which TV Turner card should I buy?OS: Windows XP ProCPU/Ram: P4 2.6 GHz / 1 GB RAM / A |
Comment: Since I have free cable TV here in my dorm, I finally decided to take advantage of it using my computer. The TV here in my room is too small and my roommate is always watching it anways. I need to know which TV tuner card is the best performance/price. I don't want to spend over $50 for one. Can anyone suggest one? Also, I would like to be able to hook up a PS2 to play on my monitor, going through a tv tuner will work right? Hmmmm this one looks alright for $53 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-122-180&catalog=47&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=1 However, there are also some for around $35. Do you think there's a big difference between the cheaper ones and this one? I have no knowledge when it comes to this stuff.

Reply: (edit)I have that card (well, not that expert version). It's not so bad, although i have some quirks about the software its bundled with (if you use the sleep mode, it'll hang my system instead of going standby...also sometimes the recordings mess up (when I play them back, it gets stuck)). At least whenever they update the software, they try to improve it =) Another cool feature is that you can use it with titantv.com. Just go to the website, click the red dot on a show you want to watch, set the settings, and click ok. Tada, the show gets recorded. (don't need to have the tv running). My bro has a tv card...we just hooked up the cable to it today though...seems more crisp and the user interface looks nicer...but I would need to study it further Remote control is nice though (it's not usually standard), and it comes with a fm tuner. I don't know what connections PS2 uses, so I can't help you there.

Reply: (edit)I am using the leadtek 2000 XP Delux. It is a great card and you are able to do things as needed. You need to do the research on the price, I do not really know the exactly price now.

Reply: (edit)You are likely to get the best compatibilty by using an ATI TV card that is meant to go with your Radeon. ATI has been making them a long, long time, so they are very reliable. The cheapest ones have VE at the end of the model (Value Edition) because they come with a minimum of bundled software, etc. - you can get these from smaller computer parts sellers as oem cheapest (the card and a CD in a bag, or maybe even just the card, you download the drivers) . There might also be clones that use the ATI chips and drivers, for even cheaper. ....... Hooking up the Playstation To connect to the cable going into the computer TV tuner, you need a RFU adater box - if your regular TV has only a cable connection, you already have this. If your regular TV has an SVideo jack, audio input jacks, and that's how you connected your PS/2, the TV card on the computer, or some card on your computer, must have an SVideo input jack, and you can use adapters to connect the audio to your sound card audio input - obviously a TV card with an SVideo jack costs more - it may be cheaper to buy an RFU unit instead, and get a cheaper TV card. http://www.us.playstation.com/support.aspx?id=installation/Playstation2/415007634.html
