If you have a cable modem, then you should get a router that is compatible with cable, not an ADSL router.
Do you have or plan to get a 802.11g wireless card?
If so, check out the Linksys WRT54G router.

I prefer Dlink's 'cause many come with print server features.
Look at Dlink's DI-824VUP which also has a print server feature. You can print to a printer from any computer on the network through their router.

no...routers dont have a preference as to what wan it sees...all that a routers does is allow for a setup of a lan that it hooks up to a larger network, be it through a cable modem or just a local server...
u also dont need a router if u dont want to spend the money, just hook up the cable modem to your pc, and let it act as a server to ur lan through a hub, which are cheaper.
but in anycase, what u were looking at wasn't a router...it was a adsl modem that had a routher built in to it...
