hi!

i got a celeron d320 at 2.4ghz with an ASROCK P4I65GV motherboard. I'll have a Seagate 40gb hard drive, cd burner, and a floppy drive. I'm not adding any mods to the system.

what would be a good psu for it? is 230W enough?

Whether it is enough or not, I would recommend a 450 Watt supply or higher. That way if and when you do upgrades, you have a PS that can handle it. Just my opinion though.

Use this to calculate the needed wattage. I recommend brands like Antec, Enermax, Zalman and Thermaltake

Kingston 2GB PC3200 D-Channel
Asus AX800 Pro w/Zalman ZM80D-HP

Despite what the calculator tells you, 230 watts may not be enough for your system.

Please let us know if it works well, works poorly, or fails.

You know I agree with badboy here, I just cannot see any unit today running on 230 watts, just doen't feel like enough to "this builder".
ASnother thing to bear in mind too is there is 230 watts and then 230 watts. many times when you buy an inexpensive case you get a real "cheapo" psu in it. My experience is at the least sign of stress they blow right out regardless of wattage.
Tha's why those in the know eher always recommend Antec, Enermax, Thermaltake,Sparkle and other known brand names....all the time.

Right now, Thermaltake PSUs at Newegg are about the best deals I've seen.

I usually recommend the ThermalTake 420W, but right now, newegg has an Aspire 450W for something like $31 after rebate...I'm not familiar with them but it looks like a nice unit & the specs are good.

The bad thing about that wattage calculator is that it doesn't take amperage into consideration. Does your 230W PSU have 16A on the +12v rail?
