Hi.
Which is the best processor (Intel or AMD) for a computer that will be used for video editing, sound editing, and playing video games?
Thanks.

Actually you want the truth? Now, this is real hard coming from a fanatical AMD loyalist like me, but the reality of the situation is that if you use same quality-level processors you won't see any difference.

The reason that most geeks use AMDs is that you get more power per dollar, and AMD is overclockable. So, you buy a Barton 1.8GHz for under $100 from Newegg.com, O/Clock it to 2.5 GHZ. Now you got a 2.5 GHz for under $100, the deal of the century!

But they are both terriffic processors, and all things being the same you won't see any difference in application.

Thanks for the tips and warning. :-)

Is it real hard to overclock a AMD processor? Being that I have never done something like that before, is it something a newbie could do?

For video editing and gaming , Id say go with a P4 with a 800MHz bus instead, The dual memory architecture and added features on the chipset make the cpu - cpu comparison almost moot because of the performance increases in the bus architecture. A Springdale chipset beats out a nForce2 chipset hands down, the processor is just icing. That, and you can still overclock it considerably, if not at the same ratio as an AMD chip. But I strongly advise against overclocking as a "newbie" as you put it, at least not to any significant degree. Maybe a little to get a little additional performance, but most "experienced" overclockers are experienced because they have fried a board or two and learned not to make the same mistakes.
