Ok, my laptop crashed & it's pretty old so I'm looking in on buying a new one.

I need just a regular one for doing homework, saving files, watching movie, etc.
One for a typical college student.

Here are the options: Laptops

1.) HP Pavilion dv6871us 15.4" Widescreen

2.) Dell - Inspiron Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5750

3.)Dell I1420-123B Laptop

4.)Gateway - Laptop with Intel® Centrino® Processor Technology

5.)HP Pavilion dv6928us 15.4" Widescreen

I'm skeptical about ordering online so I'll be buying these in-store.

Plus, if you find a better deal at either stores (best buy/circuit city) please let me know (less then $1000).

One more thing...

I heard this story about dumpster diving at BestBuy/retail stores. Is it true that they throw away their old displays & people can actually get their hands on those free goodies? Plus, it comes with no accessories, so does it still work well? *pondering* I'm just very skeptical.

No opinions on which laptop you should buy but honestly.... What retailer would discard working display stock? Anyone who claims to have obtained such by dumpsterdiving outside such a store probably obtained the goods by other five-finger discount methods.

I heard it from a co-worker. He told me that he didn't believe it either until he went & looked himself. He said that when they get new stocks in, they throw out the old. So I was just curious =) But, opinions on which laptop to get is greatly appreciated!!

I still don't believe it. They sell old display stuff all the time at a discount.
