Laptop 1 should outperform Laptop 2 because of the AXP 2800+ processor that it boasts, obviously the memory (RAM) is a bottleneck but even with that it is still the better of the two.

I don't know the circumstances behind these particular selections, but I'm curious. Why only these two?

looking at the laptop number two. it looks very much like the tiger direct sale for a acer laptop for $399. There was a two or three day sale for it, however, this sale on the laptop has been going on for a while. every time i see it i think that i should get it, but don't. I think this is the 4th time they have advertised it through email.

Ok, that is off topic...

Anyway, i think it depends, each has a weakness and advantage. for the first one, it is faster, you know that it is reliable, if it has been going for three years, and has what look likes some sort of dedicated graphics card. however, it is old, have to give it that, and probably doesn't use the new 802.11g wireless, and has ddr1 instead of ddr2, but then ddr2 probably takes more power, (i'm guessing on the last one).

for the second, it is newer, you can say you have a nice new laptop, rather then an old used one, it uses the newer more advanced ddr2, and has 802.11g wireless. on the other hand, 14.1 inches is kinda small, integrated graphics, while saving on power, are not great, and pool their memory out of the system's. it is slower and the celeron M isn't really the best choice.

Really not enough detail to make a firm choice.

other things that you might consider, are the number of expansion slots, (can you upgrade the memory later if needed?), and the number of USB as well as if it is 1 or 2. and the biggest in my opinion, price.

Seems like you are leaving yourself with little time to think this decision over. I agree with sabertooth on the only two issue. You might consider looking at other options, and giving yourself at least a few weeks to look around and decide what is best for your needs. you might as well go impulse buy a laptop in a retail store if you need to make a decision in one day. the retail clerks would gladly show you the expensive ones first.

hope that helps some!

George
