Where is the inverter in Samsung R519 screen?

February 5, 2011 at 07:54:13
Specs: Windows XP, 512 Mb
I think I need to replace the inverter on my Samsung R519 as I'm having the classic dim display problem.

However, I've followed the instructions here http://www.computerbasement.co.uk/l... which are replicated around the web, to locate and replace the inverter.

When I take the screen apart - bezel off - there is no inverter at the bottom of the screen. Have I got the one model of laptop in the whole universe without an inverter, or is it installed somewhere else?

Please help!

Which Model of the computer do you have? Apparently there is a version with a LED backlight so no inverter is needed.

I think I have that very version! After a bit of googling, I worked out that I probably must have the backlit LED version. I don't know where that leaves me, exactly, re the dim screen problem, but I'm guessing I need to replace the whole LED screen.

Thanks for your reply!

The brightness of an LED is usually controlled by varying pulses of current either by time or voltage. Very similar to the CCFL except the voltage is much lower. So there must be a driver module somewhere. Depend on how the LED's are connected could be one or as many as the number of pixels in the screen,

Hi there

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a newbie to all this, and not very technical. What is a driver module, exactly?

I ordered a replacement screen and very carefully followed the instructions to install it, only to find that on power up, the problem was exactly the same - dim screen, barely viewable, but with a powerful light, you could just make out the desktop.

I don't have an external monitor to try on it, unfortunately, but I think we can now rule out the screen itself being non-functional. It must be something to do with the power to it.

Anyone able to explain to me, please...like I'm 2 and a half, whether there is anything I can do to replace a part so that the screen is powered correctly?

Thanks a million once again

Jeremy
