Expanding on Derek's reply, if the laptop appears to be starting correctly (watch the leds) but there is NO SCREEN DISPLAY at all, try ALMOST closing the screen slowly then slowly opening it. With luck the display may show.
Often no display at all is caused by a fault in the screen cable, due to having been bent many times.
Did the fault suddenly appear or was it after something was done immediately before to the laptop?
