Specs: windows vista
hi, i have a gateway laptop and recently started having problems when typing. i can type quite quickly and have noticed that when i'm typing the letters jump from the end of the sentance, to back up into previous sentances. any suggestions please as this is driving me mad!

It sounds like you may be inadvertently touching the touchpad with your palm while you type. There may be a setting somewhere to disable the touchpad while you are typing.

Here is an article from the Gateway support site. You should be able to follow this, and then follow it in reverse if you ever need to re-enable the touchpad.

hi, tried as recommended. I dont have device settings in the Mouse options. Any thing else?

There is another way to get to the same setting. Right-click on My Computer and click Manage. Once the management console opens up, click Device Manager. Once the device list shows up, expand 'Mice and other pointing devices', you can then right-click your pointing device and click 'disable'.

hi, sorry about this - i've followed your suggestion and when i expand mice and other pointing devices all i have got is hp wireless comforn mouse and ps/ compatible mouse - no pointing device? - please help

Are you using an hp wireless mouse? If so, try disabling the other item in the list.
