First in 4 or 5 months Vista will hit the marketplace backed by the most expensive TV-Radio-Newspaper advertisement ever.

Second, if you buy a brand new OEM system with Vista-Capable sticker affixed to it, that means nothing. It doesn't mean you will receive a free upgrade to Windows Vista. You would still need to purchase the edition of Windows Vista that you want to install on your Windows Vista Capable or Premium Ready PC.

Today in CompUSA and Best Buy I couldn't believe my eyes. There were so many people buying that soon-to-be obsolete OEM PC with XP on it - Sony, HP, Compaq, Gateway.

Do they know that if they wait for a few more month they would have gotten the new & better system?

What makes you think that Vista will be better? That latest isn't always the greatest. In fact it's rare. I always stay one OS behind. To tell you the truth, I just got my first XP box a few weeks ago and that's only because my sister thought her HD crashed, so she gave it to me.
At this point in time, XP Pro is a better bet than Vista. The only thing wrong with those buyers is that they are buying an OEM. Long live clones.

How is it going to be on better systems? They will be still selling most of the same systems they have now 4 or 5 months from now, and the only diff is going to be that Windows Vista will be installed on them instead.

The only systems that you will not see being sold 4 or 5 months from now are the ones that don't support Vista right out of the box.

Windows Vista overall is just evolutionary. Windows Vista will be like what Windows XP was to Windows 2000. Until MS designs a New Technology File System then it isn't going to be a must have like what Windows XP Home using NTFS was to Windows 98/Me.

My advise is if you are going to buy Windows Vista make sure it's the Premuim Edition or higher. Windows Vista home is a waterdown version of Windows Vista will no Aero Glass. I find it funny that MS states if you use a pirated version of Windows Vista you will not be able to use Aero Glass. Well if you had a pirated copy of Windows Vista Home Edition you wouldn't be able to use it anyhow.

Windows Vista Ultimate, will be geared toward people who want to do both personal and office work on their home computers. It will cost $399, or $259 for an upgrade.

Same cost as some of the computers you say
they are bumping elbows to get at.LOL

Fer Shame!Fer Shame!But,SSThun!He was a monster!!

Consumers are as dumb as they had predicted.

Manufacturers and BestBuy are cutting the
cheese on the benches at churches. They effectionately call them PEWS.LOL

More like ignorant it's not that they aren't dumb it's that the avg consumer doesn't know any better when it comes to detailed products such as pc's.

4 to 5 months? - that remains to be seen. MS has always been late. True they just recently affirmed that they still plan to ship this year, but I still think it's questionable.

"Second, if you buy a brand new OEM system with Vista-Capable sticker affixed to it, that means nothing."

It means EXACTLY what it says - it is capabale of running Vista. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Do they know that if they wait for a few more month they would have gotten the new & better system?"

New, yes. Better??? I work for a SW company and we have been using the various pre-releases of Vista since we need to qualify our product against it. I will also be in a position to be using the final version of Vista to fully evaluate it before I even think about upgrading at home.

I do know that it will be a good while before I do switch. There will be a lot of incompatibility with Vista - just as there was with XP at launch. Plus I am no fan of the high level of DRM built into Vista.

Starting next month if you buy a Vista-Capable PC you will get a coupon for a free upgrade to Vista when it is released. So this whole discussion is moot.
