whats my bottleneck in this sytem:
1.Asus A7N8X-X (400fsb support/8xagp/pc3200)
2.AMDXP 2600+ barton w/ 333fsb and 512L2 cache
3. ATI RADEON 9800 non-pro (basically no difference between pro)
4. 512 pc3200 - i think this is the problem)
it is 512 Kingston *value Ram*
5. nvidia nforce2 sound
6. 120 gb wd 7200 rpm

In order from slowest to fastest (of the slowest devices - still with me?):
Physical, non-volatile media are traditionally the slowest:
1. Floppy Drive
2. CD-ROM drive
3. Hard driveNext comes the bus (which has a lot to do with your motherboard, so don't try seperating the two too much), which traditionally is slower than the RAM (but comparing the two is pretty much ignorant).
4. System BusNext your RAM is slower than anything on-die or with a general interconnect to a processor (mostly devices and RAM):
5. RAMThen you get to CPU components. Your video card is slower at some things (the Arithmetic/Logic Units usually are not emphasized because the GPU and its coprocessors are mostly Floating Point Units).
Your CPU and GPU can be tied, depending on how you decide which is faster (basically which kind of test you want to perform). Generally, your CPU is stronger in common system tasks which require smaller numbers and few complex calculations.
Actually, your human input is the slowest part of the entire system. Your computer spends most of its time waiting for you to issue commands.

My theory is one of two:
Value Ram may be the problem..
or the fact that you have a processor that runs at 333FSB and Ram at 400=one has problem keeping up with the other speed
When I put my 3000xp processor in I matched the Ram with the fbs.Just my two cents...

everything on your system looks great! Is there a Raven Shield chat room where you can ask if you need 1 MB of RAM to speed it up?
There is a gaming forum here you should try.

I second the above response; neither the power supply (unless you are running with a 250W, in which case you'd have problems with more than that game!) or your fsb/memory buss speed differential (the two don't try to "keep up with each other") is going to cause the slowdown you indicate.

a 9800 on a 2600+ should not lag on anything. You could have a driver or dx9 or other non-hardware problem.
But in terms of hardware, your 333fsb is the weak link. If you do not want to overclock, set the cpu fsb to 200 and the multiplier to 9.5. This will keep your cpu ghz the same but increase your fsb so its equal to your memory speed.

There are differences between the 9800pro and regular 9800.
Fillrate 3.04/2.6
Engine clock 380/325
Memory clock 680/580
