One of my computers has a card in it that I don't know what it is for. It looks like a memory stick and says smart on it. I tried doing a google search but came up with a whole bunch of information that didn't ansewer my question.

Smart Cards [expressly described as such] generally look like a credit card with a small rectangular element which is gold.
These are basically small computers which draw power from a host appliance [smart card reader] and then the host or a device attached to it will have some form of display.
Common uses are for Tollways, Public Transport and Phones: sometimes the Smart Card and its Application are termed 'electronic purse' as people would use it instead of coins. see: www.smartcardalliance.org/
Other cards known as Smart Media Cards, are for data storage: this would be used in a Digital Camera and then be able to be inserted into a card reader attached to a PC and the 'card' is viewed under XP as removable storage and the data or pictures can be copied to the PC hard drive.
In a PC only application these cards can be used to share or transfer data from one PC to another, holding mcuh more data than a floppy disk [maybe less than a ZIP disk] and depending on your budget they can be bought in sizes up to 128Mb. see: http://www.kingston.com/products/ssfdc.asp
