Hey guys i was configuring a new computer from some website i found on Pricewatch.com, i can't quite decide what motherboard is good for me. I want one that has AGP 8x, bc in the future im probably going to be upgrading the video card. The processor im getting is a intel 2.4B processor, im getting a western digital 40gig 7200 rpm hard drive. Some guy reccomended the ASUS P4X8X, i also am considering teh GIGABYTE GA-8SG667. The ASUS one is a litlte more moeny but it seems to have more features like somethign called S-ATA, can someone explain to me what thsi is. Which of these 2 mobo's woudl you get. Also, can u guys recommend any other mobo's that support AGP 8X, thakn you. By the way im getting PC2700 DDR 512mb memory at 333mhz

I personally would go with an Intel. They are very little more money and built for the processor you choose.

S-ATA is Serial ATA - it's an interface for a new type of harddrive which is starting become available. Serial ATA drives don't offer much performance increase over stardard ATA drives, but the cables are a lot smaller.

As for the Asus board vs. the Gigabyte, I've never heard of the P4X8X. Perhaps you mean the P4S8X. I don't have any experience with these boards so I can't recommend either. I personally am looking for a new board, and am considering the new SIS655 motherboards like the Gigabyte 8SQ800.

hey joe,

I had the p4s8x and had nothing but instability's with this mb.I called asus, the people there seem to give you the run a round (no answers),no e-mail returns so i returned it and got a asus p4pe this mb.is pretty good but not as many features.this was all about 2 months ago,so i dont know if asus has any fixe's for the p4s8x yet so you might want to look into this before you purchase this board.

have a good one,macdaddy
