i recently tried to update my bios and screwed up, big time.. anyways, ive decided to buy a new motherboard (dont think i have a choice).. should i get the same motherboard that was configured for my gateway pc 2 years ago or would it be better to buy a new more recent motherboard from microcenter for example... this is a link to my original board http://store.yahoo.com/alan-fm/d875pbz.html .. i have a 2.8 gig processor and 1 gig of ram, i know i need the 478 socket that support an 800 bus
also, just to verify by screwing up updating my bios it would have been my motherboard i would have screwed up and not my cpu.. i was getting the 5 beeps and one place will say its a cpu failure and another place says its a motherboard failure.

Send your BIOS chip to badflash.com, pay 'em $20, and they'll flash your chip with the proper BIOS. It'll bring your motherboard back from the dead.

If you install a NEW MBoard in this system there is a good chance your OS won't work anymore. The OEM licence is for THAT computer. Once you change out the MB you MAY not have THAT computer anymore. The BIOS chip sounds like your best bet.

Othehill is right! Normally OEM systems (like Gateway) are locked into the motherboard/Bios.

the bios is soldered (sp?) in... no taking that out so a new motherboard was my only option.. i should have bought the exact same motherboard from gateway but i couldnt wait anymore, its already been a week since ive played call of duty and im jonesin' like a crackhead. i bought a new motherboard today and am in the process of replacing.. i did find a place that will install a copy of windows for around 50 bucks if my OS wont work but im still looking into that because it might be better just to buy a new copy but im sure a new windows will be coming out sometime in the near future so the 50 dollar install may be my best option until then. thanks everyone for the help, i should have got some advice from you guys b4 i decided to update my bios.. this has become one expensive mistake
