I let a friend of mine format the harddrive of my laptop but he forgot to save my sound card drivers. I have no papers or anything to find out what kind of card I have. What can I do?

Try My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>Sound.

But you're probably better off visiting the manufacturer's site and looking up your model.

The downloadable program BELARC ADVISOR from www.belarc.com is FREE and does a system AUDIT of your PC, very useful.
