Alright, I dont really have a problem guys, as much as I need to ask something.

I have this rig that I Just put together out of spare crap.

Athlon XP 1.2Ghz
KT7A-Raid Mobo
512 SDRAM
40gig Maxtor
40gig WD
Voodoo 3000 (PCI) - Monitor Out
ATI Rage PRO (8mb I think (PCI)) - TV out
Netgear 10/100 NIC (PCI)

Now the question. What should I do with this rig guys?

I have my main system I'm writing this on now, that I do all my gaming and school stuff and all that. I have a laptop next to me, really old 366 / 32mb ram... that I have running that United Devices Small Pox thing on it 24/7. But what should I do with the rig I just built? Any Ideas would be great!

Sorry bout 2nd post, but I had to tell you guys that I also have a crappy CDrom in it right now.

I had a DVDrom but it seems to not want to read DVD's. As I had wanted to build this pc to be a HTPC... but it only reads my burned movies for some reason...

Thanks again guys!

Drill some holes in the top and use it as a BBQ....

;-)

If you use peer-to-peer file sharing, I'd dedicate it to that.

Also use it as a file archive/backup for your current machine.

Or put a tv tuner in it and use it to record TV shows.

Why on earth did you build a computer that you don't need?! Just board? :)

Anyway, I'd use it for storage I guess. Or use it as a BBQ. :)

Take the heatsink off and it will make a great BBQ lol

I would use it for backup incase something happens to your main PC, never know when you might need it

I think you should be very generous and give it to a fellow student that is in desperate need of one, you will have made an impact plus you or your folks can always right it off your taxes so everybody wins.

I'm sorry, I just can't help you, here.

I'll tell you this, though. There is a hell of a lot you can learn from a project like this.

I'll bet you are not a networking guru, or you would not be asking this, you could use (these) machines to learn networking.

Linux was mentioned.

That thing is WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY faster than my "main" computer here, a 750 mhz with onboard video.

Are you using cable broadband? Turn it into a router/firewall.

And as someone mentioned, there are lots of people that would love to have one that fast.

This is a joke, right?

No this isn't a joke, and I am quite well off with my own networking skills... I made our network up and run, and yes we have Broadband. My main comp, this one, is my 2.2 Athlon XP, Radeon 9200.

That 1.2 is a spare i had, and yes, I need to find someting to do with it

When I have enough parts to build another working computer, I give it to a Local Church, School, or individual that can not afford a computer for their kids
