I received a msg "hard drive failure imminent".
I purchased a replacement hard drive and installed it. I am unsure of exactly what to do next. I have attached the cables and plugged it in. I also have the recovery cds. What do I do next??

make sure HDD is recognized in the BIOS.
get into bios by pressing delete on booting up your pc.
Make sure its all corect. Save and exit.

once the system is booted.

Open Computer Management by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Computer Management. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

In the Navigation pane, click Disk Management

Find the HDD and format it by right clicking
Wait for format to finish
Assign it a drive letter.

Reboot and it should be working fine.

You won't have any Computer Management until you reinstall Windows by using the recovery CDs.

You simply need to set the BIOS boot order to boot to the CD before the hard drive and insert the first recovery CD into the CD drive. Then follow the screen prompts, if any.
