Subject: What needs to be replacedOS: Windows XP Home SP2CPU/Ram: P-III 550 / 256mb PC133 |
Comment: My system runs ok one windows XP, but I'm tring to run firefox 8 and it just lags me down when ever i try to use it. My specs are as follows Intel Pentium III 550 256mb Samsung PC-133 @ PC-100 Cas 2 Asus P2-99 Bios 1009A Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 @ 320/500 Maxtor 10gig 7200RPM These are the specs of the system are some riser cards, if you need to know these also, along with the optical drives I can tell you those also. I'm not looking to game really, just like doing some image work from time to time and I just spent 400 bucks to get the student edition of Macromedia 8 Suite, and want to use it on here. List what needs to be upgraded to give me more preformance. The manual lists an 800mhz cap, but the guy I bought if from said he had a 1ghz Coppermine on a slocket adapter in here running.

Reply: (edit)He may have meant Fireworks 8. For doing image work i have found that more RAM = better performance especially on larger images. I would recommend upgrading most of your system to maybe something like this: AMD Sempron 2800 Socket A processor. Half decent motherboard with an AGP 8x slot for graphics and a dual channel memory controller. 512MB (2x256MB) Matched Pair PC3200 RAM 80GB ATA 133 Hard drive. And maybe something like an ATi 9600XT Graphics card. This setup should keep you happy for a while and costs around 230GBP+ a case and new power supply if your doesnt meet that spec needed. Hope this helps. Mattmatt@bbcomputing.co.uk www.bbcomputing.co.uk

Reply: (edit)I would max out that board with the 1ghz chip and put another 256 of ram in it..You could do that for a really low price if you shop around. VeL

Reply: (edit)Ok I was looking for a way to save money, I only have about 100USD to spend on this upgrade. I did mean fireworks 8. The baord maxs at 512 PC-133 so I'll get some more ram. the local shop has 256 PC-133 new for 40 bucks. The CPU is going to be hard to find though, I will look online, probably on ebay.
