Hello all, currently I am running a P4 2.8c with a twin pair set of Kingston 256MB value ram (pc3200)totallying 512 on an Asus p4p800 deluxe motherboard. I don't have any complaints really as the system is very stable but I noticed on Far Cry and such the games tend to take awhile to load. I was told upgrading to a more higher performance memory would help. which brings me to my question, what should I get? I'm a beginner overclocker, and I've overclocked the 2.8c to 3.2 on air alone but I'm not familiar with memory timings and such and am just not sure what I'm looking for. I don't want th BEST of the BEST, but a nice mid-level upgrade from the value series.

Thanks in advance!!

I should probably add I'm using an ATI Radeon 9800 All in Wonder Pro for video...so the video and platform is ample. I'm just looking to upgrade the memory.

Thanks again!

That should be plenty of RAM.
I'm thinking your hard drive is causing the slow load times. When’s the last time you defragged? What are your hard drive specs?

I use a western digital raptor 10,000 rpm SATA drive. I have defragged scheduled to run on a nightly basis when I'm sleeping. I mean the ram works fine, but I'm sure it could load faster with a more higher performance memory...right?

Wow! That’s a fast hard drive!
I guess more memory couldn't hurt.

Yes, Raptors are nice, furry lil creatures who run very fast and make your PC smile, lol. Actually, I'm betting RAM is the issue. Even though 512 is no small amount, gaming is getting to the point where you might want to have a Gig just to smooth things a bit.

Far Cry must be a trip, everywhere I look someone is saying Far Cry won't run well on their systems--and these are otherwise very nice systems. Out of curiosity, how much RAM is on your video card? isn't the All IN Wonder version of the Pro card 128Mb?

That MIGHT be a factor, though my friend is using the same card with 128 and he runs everything fine---though admittedly he has not tried Far Cry. What's up with that game? Lol.
