I have a ECS (Elitegroup Computer Systems) P4S5A motherboard (http://www.ecs.com.tw/products/pd_spec.asp?product_id=39) which supports both SDRAM(100/133) and DDR(333/266) RAM. In total I have 4 DIMM sockets, two of each. Now I kno you cant use both types together, i gotta pick one.
I'm planning to upgrade my RAM to 512MB, and I wish to use DDR RAM, but I have no clue what kind of RAM I have on my motherboard right now, I know its 256MB tho. If its SDRAM, I'm gonna take it out and buy a 512MB DDR, but if its DDR I'm gonna buy a 256MB DDR and stick it in next to it.
So is there any method I could use to find out what kind I currently have under the hood? Anything short of opening up my PC and fiddling around with it? or is that the only way

Dowload and run aida32.exe. It will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about your computer.

wow thnx for the quick response man, thats a great tool, it told me exactly what i needed, atleast I think so. just to be sure the stuff I wanted to kno (info on my RAM module type) was under SPD rite? cuz I'm not sure what SPD means
Thanks again stuart

SPD = Serial Presence Detect.
A method of detecting the specs of RAM in the computer.

The PC100/133 is shorter (168pins)...DDR RAM is longer (184pins)...& I'm sure your manual shows which slots are for which. All you gotta do is open the case & take a look.
