Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate, 450/16 gb
I am trying to set up three monitors on my Dell XPS. However, most graphic cards that can run 3 monitors require more wattage than the 450 watt stock power supply that came with the computer. What is the most powerful psu that I can put in the XPS 8300? Or where can I find a graphics card that will run 3 monitors with a 450 watt power supply? I am not a gamer. I using the computer for biblical research, and business consulting. thanks.

Look at these:
They all support 3 or 4 monitors and they are based on the newer low power series graphics cards based on the new NVidia chips. List your complete power supplies specs (especially the 12Volt Amperage rating(s)) to be absolutely sure but they should work on any decent 450Watt power supply.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Take graphics card manufacturer's power supply recommendations with a grain of salt because they always err on the side of caution. Power supplies should not be judged (or selected) based solely on wattage. The amperage specs are what's important. It would help to know which graphics cards you're considering. I suggest you do a google search on the card along with the term "power consumption" to find out how much wattage it really requires.

Have a look at the following tables, but take them with a grain of salt as well because amperage specs are not addressed:
