?What is PCI IDE BusMaster?

OS: Windows XP Professional S
CPU/Ram: AMD Athlon XP 1700+@1.5GH

There's this option in the BIOS, under the IDE Devices settings. It says "PCI IDE BusMaster" and can be anabled or disabled. The BIOS doesn't say what it means but say that "Enables the PCI IDE BusMaster feature". What's it all about? Should I enable or disable it? Oh, and by default it is disabled.
