what is faster usb1.0 or 10/100?

I have a digital modem for my phone and cable. I was wondering what would be faster data transfer using the 1.0 usb or the ethernet port? I have a 700Mhz celeron with 66mhz bus operating ME. My ethernet card is connected on the PCI slot. Would I see an increase of performance or no? I would like to have an opinion before attempting the switch Thank you!

If memory serves USB 1.1 transfers at 11mb/s 10/100 is actually 2 speeds 10 mb/s and 100 mb/s, depending on the switch/hub/cable you have connected to it, it will run at the spped the equipment is designed for. So to answer your question USB 1.1 is slow as dirt.

Just to clarify USB 1.0 is 1.5 MB/s. It is unlikely that you have 1.0, more likely it's USB 1.1, which is rated at 12MB/s. USB 2.0 is theoretically rated at 480MB/s which will leave 100MB/s ethernet in the dust.
How fast is your connection from the modem to the ISP? I think you'll find even USB 1.0 is fast enough.
If you have a spare ethernet port, you'll need a coin, heads ethernet, tails USB.

One things for sure you are not going to get a broadband connection to come anywhere near 100Mbs so the difference between Ethernet and USB 2.0 is of no consequence.
Besides, a 66Mhz Celeron isn't going to drive a USB 2.0 at full speed.

Yeah, but, a gigabit NIC to a dialup modem has some pretty mean bragging rights!

THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLY! I made the mistake of thinking that i had 1.0 usb I have the 1.1 usb connection. I have used sisoft sandra software to clock the sppeds and I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced sonmething different or tweaked it up a little. Thank you all I'll try the ethernet and if no inmprovement then I'll goi back to the usb.
