ECC means 'error correcting' most home computers take non-ecc ram, ecc is more often for commercial servers. I might be wrong here, and please could someone point out if I am - I believe that if you look at one side of the ram stick and count the chips on it (only on one side if it is 2 sided), even number means non-ecc and odd number means ECC.
