Specs: Linux i686, Pentium III/82815
I know that BIOS prepares some ACPI tables.(Can an operating system create these tables?) But how these tables are used? How they effect the hardware?

Thank you for the links. But it is very nice if somebody explains ACPI in a few words. I am looking for the logic behind that. I know that BIOS sets up some tables, OK. So what happens after it? How CPU is put in S1 or S3 states? The information of ACPI are very lengthy and at last one can not find out what ACPI is at last!

In simple terms.

It controls parts of the computer not just power but many things could be controlled.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
