Is a laplink cable crossed over like the cat5 crossover cable? or can I use a Gender adaptor on a printer extension cable? The computer is an old laptop with no pcmcia slots.

A laplink cable has a serial and parallel port connection on each side. is not a straight thru cable as in both interface styles, the send and receive(serial) or handshaking signals (parallel) are switched. it is commonly referred to as a crossover cable.

they're the ones that i think came up with the laplink cable for DCC, they do the serial and parallel and now a usb cable!
they're expensive so go finds a 3rd party manufacturer...

The easiest way is to use the serial ports and make up a cable to connect them.

Only about 6 - 8 wires at most are required.

Good luck - keep us posted.
