Hello, I don't know much about computers so I'm seeking some information. I had my computer crash down yesterday as I wanted to shut it down, it didn't work, I suddenly got the blue screen with messages, then it restarted, then a message came up saying something like "the computer has recovered from a serious error" and it was due to a "device driver" and this error was called a windows "stop" or something like this (pardon my memory). What is a device driver? Is it a mechanical fault? Is this bad? Or it normally happens rarely? I've never had this problem before, it was the first time and I've had this computer for 9 months. Thanks very much for your help!

Saying that XP is the most stable MS OS is like saying that asparagus is the most articulate vegetable

Thanks for the link but I please wanted to know if the whole crash story with the windows stop didn't look like there is a problem in my computer, if it's normal or if I should investigate. Thanks if you can let me know!

if the computer works fine now I would ignore it. If it happens often then write down the meaasge and report back to us.

A device driver is a program that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device (modem, video adapter, sound adapter, etc). The program is written by the manufacturer of the device.

"What is a device driver? Is it a mechanical fault? Is this bad?"
Easily determined by a few seconds of very basic research.
I keep hearing the expression "there's no such thing as a stupid question"
Not one of my beliefs - in particular, I consider those questions whose answers can be readily found online to fit that category
