what causes a modem to beep

January 13, 2012 at 13:10:47
Specs: Windows XP
when permanently deleting emails from deleted file in Outlook Express, sound like my modem is beeping when I OK the delete. I had unplugged my scanner and netgear cable stuff but did not cure the beeping. Also, when Windows XP starts up, I have no musical notes as I did for many years. Thank you.

I think you meant to ask what is causing your computer to beep. Your modem is a piece of hardware that provides your internet connection.. is your computer beeping or the modem?

If your computer is beeping then you might want to try re-installing the sound drivers.

Hello & thank you. Friends here also said it is coming from modem. With all the hiccups I'm having lately with this old computer, I have decided to have a pro come here and go over it. Your suggestion re sound drive is very interesting but again, I haven't a clue on where to begin. Again, thank you for your time but I know that my ignorance will only waste your time and efforts. ur modem does not beep... it only provides u with internet like a router.
u said its an old computer which probably does not have sound drivers installed, and the beeping u are having are probably the windows sounds being displayed when the computer messages u, u need ur sound drivers
