What cable do I need to watch movies from laptop to TV

Specs: Windows xp, 3.2/ 1512 MB
Hi did a quick search and didnt really find a proper answer. Would like to connect my laptop to tv so I can watch my video (with sound).Id like the sound to come out from the tv speaker (if its not normal that is) since from the laptop it would suck. Im not sure the name of it or if only one cable would work...My laptop is kinda old its a presario v2000 series.

I probably will order this from the internet directly from china or ebay or something along these lines in order to pay dirt cheap. So if you can...a pic would be nice since I have no clue what it looks like. thanks!!!

The Laptop has a VGA output, so does the unknown TV have a VGA input ?

If the unknown TV has a Audio Line-in you can use an audio cable from the Laptop Headphone Socket to the TV.

If the above is not feasible you will need a converter box which are not cheap, or buy a new TV !

Though if you have SVideo out you could try a Scart Adaptor to output Video and Audio to the unknown TV:

It all depends on what inputs the TV has and what out puts the computer has.

According to the specs your laptop has S-Video out. You need to ensure your TV has S-video input other wise you will need an adaptor to suit the TV.

You are also going to need an audio cable to connect the computers sound card to the TV as S-Video does not carry audio.

Might be able to use a $4 connector if either TV or PC is new enough.

Companies sell a cheap gizmo that should work OK. The cheapo deals have a way to convert computer to tv signal and they should come with all the cables needed. http://www.amazon.com/PC-To-TV-Vide...

The problem is that either the TV or the computer has to change to the other format. Computer and TV are not the same signal. If your computer or TV can change then any simple connector can do what you want.

My laptop has vga and s-video out. my tv isnt recent (cat tv about 10 year old) so I see that I could buy a cable s-video and audio which then would split into the regular 3 color (red white yellow) tv output...is that the best way? Im not sure I understand the scart thingy...wouldnt I need calbe and THat?

Also I see some cables go direclty into usb...
Basically I want good pic and sound...its not so much portability with this...its more like I am tired of burning into dvds which are compliant with my dvd player.

You can gamble that the cheap cable does it. The TV won't read pc video so you have to then assume the laptop can output in TV format.

The $15 gizmo would (or should) provide a way to view on your TV but the cable isn't that expensive to try. Maybe a local place might have it.
