Comment:
i have a diskette that comes with the western digital hard drive called 'data lifeguards tools'
my floppy was not working after i assembled my computer because i plugged the wire the wrong way
after fixing the floppy, i decided to use the diskette, but it says if would erase all data on the hard drive to do so
i already installed many softwares on my computer, is this lifeguards tool necessary?

Usually, Data Lifeguard is used to setup your harddrive before installing the operating system. It partitions, formats, run diagnostics/make repairs.
If you didn't use it to setup your system, & you already installed the OS & other software, you shouldn't have any need for it. Keep it around though...if for some reason the drive develops a prob, the software can diagnose it & print out a report, then that report can be used to obtain a warranty replacement of the drive from WDC.
