Hi guys, well my fan just died. My brother was using the computer and noticed that programs and applications were not running properly and I checked to see what's wrong. I noticed that it was fairly quiet and I touched the case and it was hot so I looked at the fan in the back of the computer and it was not running.

Anyway, I'm hardware-stupid and I'm wondering how I would go about to replacing the fan. Is the fan stand-alone or is it part of the computer case or what? I don't remember seeing any fans on sale at places like Best Buy. Help would be appriciated in helping me where to find and replace my fan and how to install it. Thanks!!

yea its real easy to change, undo the screws pop it out and put in a new one, the fan is plugged either in a plug on the power supply line or into the mother board,
a great plac to buy stuff

"I looked at the fan in the back of the computer and it was not running." ... Hey, be careful it's not the fan that's an integral part of your power supply unit! Those are the fans one can usually see at the back of the case. Best to swap out the entire power supply with a new one if you're comfortable working in a PCs innards. Cracking open the power supply unit to get at a defective fan is really dangerous, you can get a dayum-near fatal jolt if you're not careful! Good luck!

I was assuming he was talking about the case fan mounted below the power supply
the CASE fan is easy to change, the POWER supply fan is not in the system case but in the power supply case, so yea if it is the top most fan on the back on the computer where the power cord plugs in THEN buy a new power supply. :>

Thats why you must discharge all caps on the psu before touching the rest of it. An easy job when u know how. Otherwise take the safe option, change. Though it galls me to waste a perfectly good psu, sometimes these things must be done.

good luck,
kev
